Two Marines from Michigan and one from Virginia have died in fighting in Afghanistan.
The Defense Department said Monday that 19-year-old Lance Cpl. Dominic Ciaramitaro of the Detroit suburb of South Lyon and 23-year-old Sgt. Sean Callahan of Warrenton, Va., died Saturday while on combat operations in Helmand province.
Both were assigned to the 3rd Battalion, 9th Marine Regiment, 2nd Marine Division at Camp Lejeune, N.C.
The Herald Times in Gaylord reported Monday that 26-year-old Sgt. David Day of Gaylord was killed by a roadside bomb.
Don Day tells the newspaper that his son already had served two tours in Iraq after enlisting in 2003 and completed bomb disposal training in 2009.
