PENNFIELD TOWNSHIP, Mich. (AP) -- Authorities in southwestern Michigan say two men escaped from a car before a train struck it, but one of them now faces charges of driving while high on drugs.

The accident happened about 4:45 a.m. Sunday in Calhoun County's Pennfield Township, northeast of Battle Creek.

WOOD-TV reports that sheriff's deputies say a 101-car Canadian National freight train pushed the car 100 yards.

Authorities say the car's 21-year-old driver was arrested on a charge of driving under the influence of drugs. They say he and his 41-year-old passenger escaped without injury.
