The man who admitted setting a copy of the Qu'ran on fire at the Islamic Center in East Lansing will not be charged.

Ingham County Prosecutor Stuart Dunnings announced late Tuesday afternoon in faxed statement that "after reviewing the police report, I have decided that there is no criminal offense that I can charge under Michigan Law." Dunnings also said he had discussed his decision with the director of the Islamic Center.

A man turned himself in after the City of East Lansing announced a reward of up to $10,000 for information leading to an arrest. That person has not been publicly identified.

The charred pages of the Qu'ran were found scattered around the East Lansing center on the morning of September 11. It had been burned on the center's front steps.
