ANN ARBOR (AP) -- Ann Arbor police say two people who were the subject of a search after they didn't return from a trip on the Huron River actually abandoned their rented canoe when they got tired of boating.

Police tell AnnArbor.com that a 43-year-old Whitmore Lake man and a female companion rented a canoe Saturday afternoon at one canoe livery and they were expected Saturday evening at another livery to get a bus ride back.

A canoe livery employee called police when they didn't show up.

Police searched for them Saturday and Sunday, and the canoe was found with both life jackets and paddles inside.

Sounds to me like they simply took off so they didn't have to pay, or they just got tired and said forget it. It's obvious they didn't tip over. Is that them in the picture?? That's a tandem kayak--Not a canoe.

This sounds like a typical problem in society. If something is too hard, quit.
