Authorities say a 49-year-old Indiana man drowned after he fell from a Ludington breakwater into Lake Michigan.
The Ludington Daily News reports that Timothy Spiller of Columbia City, Ind., was fishing about 6:30 a.m. Saturday with his wife and father on the city's lighthouse platform when he lost his footing and fell into the lake.
Other anglers who were on the breakwater tried to rescue Spiller before the crew of a passing boat heard his cries and pulled Spiller from the water.
The Coast Guard took Spiller to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead.
Mason County Medical Examiner Marc Keen says Spiller died of drowning.
