One of the owners of the three pit bulls that viciously attacked a six-year-old Jackson girl will spend the next 11 months in jail.

Because she is now facing a new felony charge, a Jackson County judge sentenced 19-year-old Jasmine Bailey to 333 days in jail for violating her probation on a previous case.

Bailey and her boyfriend, Brian Nace, were arraigned in court last week on charges related to the mauling of Tyah Norris at their home in Blackman Township.

After spending weeks in the hospital, Tyah is finally home. She was discharged monday.

The dogs were euthanized.

While I feel just terrible for the little girl, why do I only read about dog attacks when a Pit Bull is responsible? I know that they have the ability to do more damage than other breeds, but that does not mean that they are always more likely to attack. I think the media does a very poor job at reporting when it comes to them. I have a Pit Bull, and she is the sweetest dog, and has never even shown her teeth. I have been attacked by a dog in my years of volunteering at shelters, and it was a cocker spaniel. Any dog has the ability to turn agressive, remember that they are pack animals. Punish the deed, not the breed.

If pit bull owner got 11 months or more for these attacks, they might start getting it through their thick skulls that its not worth owning these disgusting things.

Judges should get creative in the probotion. They can restrict that they do not have animals in their place of residence.
