Authorities say a small plane piloted by a 64-year-old Indiana man made an emergency landing in a southwestern Michigan cornfield after experiencing engine trouble.
The Berrien County sheriff's department says Rodney Pickett Sr. of Valparaiso was the only person on the single-engine plane and wasn't hurt in Thursday afternoon's landing in Niles Township, near the Michigan-Indiana border.
Authorities say the plane didn't have much damage from the landing.
The airport in South Bend, Ind., notified Niles-area authorities earlier that the plane was having trouble. The sheriff's department says Pickett was flying to Dowagiac, Mich. from Valparaiso.
