Delta Air Lines is starting nonstop flights from a southern automotive center to a northern one.
The airline will fly nonstop from Chattanooga, Tennessee, to Detroit starting Tuesday, linking a new auto manufacturing hub with a historic one.
Chattanooga airport spokeswoman Christina Siebold told The Chattanooga Times Free Press that the airport is bolstering the service with $50,000 worth of marketing and fee waivers.
The promotional campaign is paid for from the airport's operations budget and will help get the word out about the service, while Delta receives some landing fee or terminal rent cuts.
VW has about 400 people in Auburn Hills, Mich., and plans to start production at its $1 billion Chattanooga assembly plant next year.
