It just took one sentence to change Tina Greer's life.
But once CP Federal Credit Union president John Crist read the announcement that she had won a new home, tears came quickly.
Greer is the winners of CP Federal Credit Union's "Wish Upon a Home Giveaway". She was chosen out of a group of 4 finalists after going through a lengthy interview process and filling out a 17-page application.
"I was very excited to change the life of one family," Crist told WILX. "This community has given us so much, we just wanted to give back."
The house Greer and her 5 children will be moving into is a 4-bedroom, 1,780 square foot home outfitted with hardwood flooring. After living in the home for 5 years, Greer will own the home outright and will just be responsible for property taxes, insurance and utilities.
It's a big move for Greer, who will move from a trailer park in Spring Arbor at the beginning of October. She has been hurting since losing her husband to a fatal car crash and her job both in 2006.
"It was my faith in the Lord that really helped me through that tough time," Greer said.
She now has work with a realtor in Florida and conducts most of her business from home. Her determination inspired friends and family.
"My wife and I were in tears," said Jonathan Weathers, Greer's pastor. "We know it's been hard for her and to know that some of that burden is relieved... it's pure joy I guess."
"She's a very strong woman," said Dan Good, Greer's brother-in-law.
CP Federal Credit Union has not yet decided whether to give away another home next year.
