The Detroit Police Department says one of its motorcycle officers was critically hurt when a U.S. Postal Service truck hit her.

The accident happened Monday afternoon in downtown Detroit.
Police spokeswoman Sgt. Eren Stephens tells The Detroit News the motorbike and truck collided head-on, and investigators are trying to find out how it happened.

WDIV-TV says a witness called 911 but was placed on hold, so instead used the injured officer's radio to call for help, which then arrived quickly.

Wow! So you call 911 and get placed on hold? How scary is that? Probably too busy taking a break or playing cards.

The most disturbing part of the entire story was that the bystander was put on hold after calling 911.
