Atlanta - Americans are more obese than their neighbors to the north. The report issued by the National Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and Statistics Canada says one-third of Americans are Obese. In Canada only 24% are considered obese. It's the first time the C.D.C. compared American obesity rates with another country.
Study authors note both countries have different racial demographics. In the U.S. the largest minority groups are African Americans and Hispanics, who have higher obesity rates than whites. While southeast Asians are a large minority group in Canada, and they are less likely to become obese. However the team notes the American obesity rate remained slightly higher even when only looking at the white populations.
