A Grand Rapids area woman says she's comforted that her husband could help save four lives despite losing his own.

Peggy Korzen tells The Grand Rapids Press her husband, Tim, was the donor for western Michigan's first heart transplant last month after the 44-year-old died of bacterial meningitis. Tim Korzen's kidneys and liver also have been transplanted into three other people.

Tim Korzen of Ada Township died Nov. 26. A team of cardiothoracic surgeons performed the eight-hour heart transplant at Spectrum Health Meijer Heart Center about 24 hours later.

Korzen's organs went to three people in Michigan and one in Texas.

Peggy Korzen says her husband wouldn't consider himself a hero. The father of two "just few under the radar and helped everybody" -- expecting nothing in return.
