Clinics for H1N1 or the swine flu are a common sight across mid-Michigan. That may be one reason that less people are showing up at their doctor's office complaining of the symptoms. It's a trend many are noticing in offices and hospitals across Mid-Michigan.

At Hayes Green Beach Hospital in Charlotte, T.J. Bucholz says, "I think the vaccine definitely helps." There they are tracking the trends. Bucholz says, "We start to see spikes earlier in the week, but they sort of taper off toward the end of the week and we're starting to see that pattern now."

Schools are a good indicator of how the swine flu is behaving because of the reporting that they do. About two weeks ago, the state had reports that hundreds of schools were closed because too many kids were out with flu-like symptoms. As of Monday, only seven were closed. They Barry-Eaton County Health Department says that typically the illness hits the kids first, and then the adults show up with the symptoms. At the Ingham County Health Department, Dr. Dean Sienko says the past few weeks have been fast and furious with H1N1.
He says, "It may have crested."

The downswing in activity could be attributed to the nature of the virus. Sienko says, "It goes in waves like a roller coaster. He adds, "We need to take advantage of this opportunity to get vaccinated." Medical professionals will continue to monitor the activity.
