DETROIT (AP) -- A woman has been found dead behind the steering wheel of a sport utility vehicle on a Detroit freeway.
State police say 32-year-old Jennifer Scavone was found by a Michigan Department of Transportation courtesy van driver about 3:40 a.m. Saturday on Interstate 75 just north of downtown.
Scavone lived north of Detroit in Sterling Heights.
The van's driver stopped to lend assistance after spotting the SUV idling along the northbound shoulder of the freeway. He radioed the state police after noticing bullet holes in the driver's side of the SUV and Scavone slumped over the steering wheel.
The northbound lanes of the freeway were closed for several hours as police gathered evidence.
