Dan Moore, certified physician assistant at Ingham Internal Medicine and Pediatric Associates in Lansing, a partner of McLaren Greater Lansing, is treating viral gastroenteritis.
The symptoms are: diarrhea, with or without nausea; vomiting; loss of appetite; fatigue and fever.
Oftentimes, it starts with mild fever and vomiting.
Symptoms will normally clear up on their own, but if they last longer than a few days, you should see a doctor.
Meantime, drink lots of fluids, take Motrin or Tylenol for fever, and increase solid foods as tolerated.
You should see a doctor if fever won't go below 101 degrees while taking Motrin or Tylenol, or if your symptoms are more severe.
Pay special attention to children and the elderly with these symptoms.
