What's Going Around

Posted: Mon 7:01 PM, Dec 03, 2012

If you have cold symptoms, you may have what's going around this week. It's an upper respiratory virus.

In Okemos, Dr. Dennis Perry at Meridian Primary Care, a partner of McLaren Greater Lansing, is treating it. The symptoms he's treating are similar to a cold: sore throat, nasal congestion and cough.

You'll have a sore throat and fever for three to four days and then a cough that lasts another week.

To treat this virus, rest, take Tylenol or ibuprofen for aches and fever control, and drink lots of fluids.

It may help to breathe in steam from a hot shower or bath. Taking over-the-counter cold medicines may also help.

If symptoms haven't improved after 10 days or you have a high fever, you should see a doctor.
