What's Going Around

The flu is showing up in doctors' offices right here in mid-Michigan.

Physician Assistant Dan Moore at McLaren Greater Lansing Internal Medicine in Lansing is treating the flu this week.

Here are the symptoms:
--fever
--body aches
--headache
--chills
--sweats
--cough
--sore throat
--runny nose

It's rare for the flu to cause nausea, vomiting and diarrhea, but sometimes it can.

To treat the flu, rest and drink lots of fluids. Motrin, Aleve or Tylenol can help with fever. Over-the-counter cold medications can help, too.

See a doctor if your fever won't drop or if you have a chronic condition that affects your body's ability to fight infection. People with hypertension or a heart condition should see a doctor before trying to treat the flu themselves.

You shouldn't give children under the age of four any kind of cough medicine.
