A Wayside Baptist Church in Webberville burned to the ground overnight Tuesday, but its members aren't losing faith.
"You don't even know what your feelings are when something like this happens and you observe it and you observe it while it's burning," Bruce Cook, a member of 14 years said.
Fire crews fought the flames for more than four hours at the Elm Road Church. Now, little remains there but rubble and ash.
"There's nothing written, the pews, you can't even tell there was a pew in the church," pastor Ed Calhoun said. "It's just all gone."
Firefighters don't know what started the blaze, but say one thing is clear, the church won't be standing alone in this.
"There's already been a large outpouring of support from the community, just the little time that I was out there this morning there was at least three other pastors that offered to help," Fire Chief Michael Flynn, with Leroy Township Fire said.
Donations, food and offers of places to worship poured in Wednesday. The support was an unexpected blessing for church members, but not the only one.
"Everybody was safe and that's a blessing right there, so it's going to work out, we've just got to wait for God's timing," Calhoun said.
So, with the smell fo smoke still hanging in the air, church members turned to prayer.
"If we don't have a church, we'll meet in a parking lot, but we will meet," Cook said.
Though they have little left but their sign, Wayside Church members say faith is all they need.
"Everything happens for good and this will," Cook added. "This will help us bond as a congregation and we will build from this."
