Wayne State Defies GOP Lawmakers & Ratifies Contract

Wayne State University's governors have ratified an eight-year faculty contract, one week ahead of the effective date of Michigan's new right-to-work law.
The law bans mandatory payments from employees to the unions that represent them under collective bargaining agreements.
The American Association of University Professors-American Federation of Teachers Local 6075 ratified the agreement earlier this month, and the Wayne State board of governors followed suit Wednesday.
The vote was along party lines on the Democratic-controlled board. The Republican-led state Legislature has threatened retaliation against schools that adopt long-term contracts not covered by the right-to-work law.
Republican Gov. Rick Snyder said Wednesday he doesn't have a problem with longer contracts as long as they're "fairly bargained" in an "arms-length basis."

I don't think the taxpayers are doomed. The settlements are for pay cuts and also they pay more for their own insurance. So why wouldn't you want them to settle? It sounds good for taxpayers and students.

All this is, is a game of chicken to see who blinks first. If the lobbying group has the politicians in their pocket, then the taxpayers are doomed. If not, then the lawmakers have to step up to the plate and actually do their job. (aka pull the funding and squeeze the universities resources nice and tight) Way too many vultures bleeding the taxpayers dry. Enough is enough! Thank you. Ricardo

This is an easy fix. Cut their funding!

So who do you think is going to end up paying the bill when these unions get their pay upgrades ? Its not the univer. its not the unions its going to be the tax payers of this state. Because as soon as this happens Wayne State is going to come running to the State and want more money. And what happens when their contract is up in 8 years? so all they did is postpone the out come and this is what libs. and Dems call forward thinking what a joke. GO RTW
