The search for a new superintendent in the Waverly School District is coming to an end. The school board says it wants a superintendent in place by mid-May, and is expected to make its selection Monday night.
The new hire will come after a string of interim superintendents, since former Superintendent Dr. Debra Jones resigned in November.
According to comments in her evaluations, school board and staff members were not happy with Jones' performance. Teachers had complained, saying morale was low under her leadership.
The board refuses to comment on why Jones left, but parents were outraged when she recommended Principal Vince Perkins be fired.
Jones has reached a $161,000 settlement with the district.
The school board has brought in teachers, parents and other community members to help find her replacement.
Two candidates remain; Terry Urquhart, Principal of Forest Hills Central High in Grand Rapids, and Jeffrey Beal. He is the Superintendent of Vestaburg Community Schools.
Waverly's school board will Monday at 7:30 p.m. News 10 will have results from that meeting when they come in.
