KALAMZOO, Mich. (AP) -- Western Michigan University has temporarily suspended a fraternity following a shooting at a house party near campus that left one person wounded.

Police responded early Sunday to the shooting in Kalamazoo at the Phi Beta Sigma fraternity house. The school said in a statement Monday the suspension comes while it awaits an official police report.

The Associated Press sent a message Tuesday seeking comment from Phi Beta Sigma.

Police say a 20-year-old Kalamazoo man was shot in the leg. Police say a 20-year-old woman had a back injury, possibly from being hit with flying glass.

Western Michigan University spokeswoman Cheryl Roland told the Kalamazoo Gazette the shooting happened after fraternity members turned away some uninvited guests. She says neither of those injured in the incident were students at the university.
