UPDATE: Friends Mourn Teen Killed in Accident

Friends and classmates are mourning the death of a Western High School student killed in an accident early Sunday morning.

State police responded to a single-car accident around 4:30am Sunday on Cox Road near Teft Road in Jackson County's Spring Arbor Township. They say the teen was alone in the car and had lost control and crashed into a tree. Police believe speed may have been a factor in the accident.

According to several social media accounts, friends have identified the teen killed as 16-year-old Colton Aukerman of Parma. The teen played baseball for Western High School and leaves behind several teammates, classmates and friends.

On Twitter Sunday, several students expressed their grief and looked for ways to honor their friend. T-shirts with his name, picture and the saying "Loved son, wonderful brother, great uncle and dear friend" are being made by students, who say the money will go to the family. Students are encouraging each other to wear blue in Colton's honor on Monday.
