ANN ARBOR, Mich. (AP) -- The A. Alfred Taubman Medical Research Institute at the University of Michigan is launching a public lecture series on health sciences that kicks off next week.

The first Health Science Lecture Series presentation is Wednesday and will feature Dr. Max Wicha. He's a Taubman Institute Senior Scholar and founding director of the university's Comprehensive Cancer Center.

Wicha's lecture is titled "Cancer stem cells: A new frontier in cancer research" and includes a question-and-answer session. Wicha will talk in the Kahn Auditorium of the university's biomedical science research building.

Organizers say the series is designed for the general public and the next generation of researchers to meet and hear from the university's leading scientists.
