DEARBORN, Mich. (AP) -- More than 200 union activists have gathered for a pep talk and instruction to protest legislation that would allow workers in Michigan to stop paying union dues.

UAW Local 600 in Dearborn opened its doors Saturday to anyone who wanted to attend. Activist Lisa Fithian of Texas warned people to be careful next week during protests Tuesday at the Michigan Capitol. She says union opponents "will do everything they can to criminalize us."

Republican lawmakers are putting the final touches on legislation that would allow workers to opt out of union dues at a business where employees are represented by a union. Republican Governor Rick Snyder says he will sign it into law.

Fithian told activists to be prepared to hear insults next week at the Capitol.
