A suspected shoplifter is in jail after police say he assaulted an employee at the Family Dollar store at the intersection of Jolly and Waverly in Lansing.

Employees say one of them asked the man to leave when they noticed he was shoplifting. That when, police say, he pulled out a knife and cut one of the employees. Immediately, the clerks took matters into their own hands and held the suspect down until police arrived to take over.

The suspect is now facing assault charges.
