LANSING, Mich. (AP) -- A former assistant track coach at a northern Michigan middle school has turned himself in after being charged with attempting to solicit sex from students.
Tyler Groenwald of Bear Lake surrendered to authorities on Friday. He faces four counts of accosting children for immoral purposes, four counts of using a computer to commit a crime and one count of distributing or promoting child sexually abusive materials.
The 20-year-old Groenwald was a track coach for Onekama Middle School.
State Attorney General Bill Schuette says a former student coached by Groenwald alleged that Groenwald attempted to solicit sex from him and requested nude pictures via text messages. Groenwald also is accused of "sexting" several other students.
Defense attorney Mark Quinn declined comment, saying he hadn't had a chance to review the information.
