LOS ANGELES (AP) -- Authorities have lifted evacuation orders in two California wildfire-scarred foothill communities that were threatened by mudflows during several days of powerful rain.

Los Angeles County residents in Glendora and Monrovia were allowed back to their homes early Sunday.

Evacuations were still in effect for a third neighborhood in Azusa.

Rescuers are busy even though the storm is moving out.

Swift water rescue teams pulled four hikers to safety overnight in Malibu after they became trapped by rising floodwaters in Malibu State Creek Park.

And in San Diego County, divers are searching for a 55-year-old man whose kayak was found floating upside down in stormy weather on Lake Sutherland Dam in Ramona.

High surf also breached a berm in Long Beach overnight, causing minor damage to 20 oceanfront homes.
