Michigan Attorney General Bill Schuette has issued criminal investigative subpoenas against several mortgage processors as his office expands its investigation into questionable mortgage documentation practices.
Schuette announced the subpoenas Wednesday, saying they were sent to four companies.
The subpoenas were approved by the 54B District Court in Ingham County on Monday. The companies have until June 30 to provide the information requested in the subpoenas.
Schuette is investigating if some mortgage processing companies permitted robo-signing on legal documents tied to home foreclosures.
He's also working with other states' attorneys general in a national workgroup examining mortgage lending practices.
