LANSING, Mich. (AP) -- Republican Terri Lynn Land raised slightly more than $2 million in the first three months of her U.S. Senate run.

The former Michigan secretary of state is waiting to file a detailed report for the third quarter due in a week, but said Monday that "less than half" came from her pockets. Land could put millions of her own money into the race.

Land's campaign says she has no debt and fundraising is strong compared with other U.S. Senate campaigns.

Land is the only Republican candidate. Democrat Gary Peters hasn't reported his quarterly haul after raising more than $1 million in the second quarter.

Democratic Sen. Carl Levin is retiring in 2014. Land says the seat is crucial if Republicans are going to win control of the Senate from Democrats.
