LANSING -- "This is probably the worst one I've delivered in."

Lansing postal carrier Al Davenport has been trudging through snow and braving freezing temperatures to get you your mail.

"The blowing snow and the wind. That's what gets the mail carriers -- the wind," he tells News 10 while delivering his rounds on Foster Avenue in Lansing.

And local carriers across mid-Michigan -- believe it or not -- ventured out Wednesday in the thick of the biggest storm of the season, though they admit they couldn't get to everyone.

Ann Waters, who lives in north Lansing, says she hasn't received mail Wednesday or Thursday, which she notes hasn't happened since the legendary storm of 1967.

"They finished plowing our street at about 5:30 [Thursday] night, so I don't blame our mail-gal for not coming," Waters says.

The same is true for other folks across mid-Michigan. The owner of another home in north Lansing says the Netflix rental she placed in her box hasn't been picked up in three days.

But Lansing Post Office Spokeswoman Sabrina Todd says, given the conditions, the carriers are doing a remarkable job.

"Some streets, we couldn't get down," she says, noting the postal trucks aren't very good in the snow. "And we told our carriers, 'Don't risk an injury, don't risk an accident.'"

Todd says better than 90 percent of customers got their mail Wednesday, even more Thursday, with operations expected to be fully back to normal Friday.

"We had a lot of people who were very surprised that we were even out," she says.

And she points out -- FedEx and UPS cancelled all their routes Wednesday.
