As part of the M-43/Saginaw Street bridge replacement project over the Grand River, Lansing's River Trail is now closed at the bridge.
Work to replace the bridge is expected to begin in early March, with eastbound M-43 closed during construction. Work includes changing the five-lane roadway to four lanes between Washington Avenue and North Cedar Street, widening sidewalks on both sides of the street from 5 feet to 8 feet.
The River Trail will also be widened from 7 feet to 10 feet, headroom will be improved under the bridge, and the path will be raised above the Grand River to minimize closures due to flooding.
While the River Trail is closed, a detour is posted directing trail users to Saginaw Street, east to Cedar Street, then back to the Grand River.
The project is expected to wrap up in September.
