Detroit police are seeking help from the public in catching the driver of a pickup truck who struck and killed a boy as he took out the trash.
Police say the boy was hit about 1:20 p.m. Sunday on a street near Eastland Shopping Center.
Family members identified the boy as 10-year-old Christopher Sandoval. Lisa Sandoval told The Detroit News she sent her son to take out the trash and heard "a loud screeching sound." She says Christopher was found in the street, bloodied and barely breathing.
Police tell the Detroit Free Press that the pickup driver stopped about a block away to dislodge a garbage can stuck under his truck, then took off again.
Police say the pickup may be a Dodge Ram from the early 2000s.
