Owosso Man Charged With Deer, Turkey Poaching

A 51-year-old Michigan man faces charges related to poaching deer and turkey.

The Shiawassee County sheriff's office says Brian Birchmeier was arraigned Friday on 125 misdemeanor counts.

Birchmeier of Owosso Township is charged with 115 counts of taking or possessing deer over the legal limit and seven counts of taking turkey without a permit. He also is charged with illegal baiting.

A state conservation officer found a number of antlers and illegal bait piles earlier this month at Birchmeier's home.

More than 170 antlers, as well as shoulder mounts, crossbows and turkey beards were seized.

Birchmeier could face more than $120,000 in reimbursement payments and up to 90 days in jail.

The Associated Press could not reach Birchmeier Friday for comment.

This man assaulted me with a loaded hand gun to my forehead about 18 years ago. Why does he still have firearms in his possession ? I am not the only one he assaulted . The other man has past away and cant tell the law .

As long as this man was taking the animals for food...who cares. That's what hunting is all about--food gathering. If he was trespassing, charge him accordingly--if he was on his own land, as far as I'm concerned, when that deer or turkey crosses the property line it belongs to landowner. Private property rights come first!

Possessing deer antlers and turkey beards is not a crime. It sounds as though he has a history of poaching, and for that he should be, and will be punished. I am sure he will lose his hunting rights for a long time and pay hefty fines. He ought to, he violated.

The local Farmers with deer crop damage should be thanking him for His Deer Management skills by keeping the herd thin. Can't say much about this guys skills for Govt evading troops though.....chock this effort as a learning experience for 12/21/12. I see this guy as one who I want on my side when anarchy comes.

His hunting/fishing rights should indeed be taken away. The law, based on his crimes, will determine if he will ever own guns again. He certainly has shamed himself and his family. His actions are a disgrace to the hunting and fishing community. To say that he, as a person, is a waste of flesh is just as disgraceful. We have all made mistakes, some bigger than others, but every one of us has done something not in perfect step with the law. If you claim you haven't , then I call you a liar. He will pay for his crimes. I just hope his punishment fits the crimes he has committed.

Well, since I have been in 17 car-deer crashes, I applaud this man for taking some of these pest animals off the roads and woods. There are too many deer and the cost of hunting licences are going up so I wouldn't be surprised if more people hunt without a licence.

It seems that after ONE HUNDRED TWENTY-FIVE MISDEMEANOR COUNTS, it should "switch over" to FELONY?! This man obviously has disregard for any law. So why shouldn't he be treated equally? I deem people such as this "total wastes of flesh and bone."

This man should be locked up (actually, he already has been), but this time they should throw away the key. He is an absolutely worthless individual and disgrace to his family, friends, and the entire Owosso community. Have fun in prison you jerk.
