A new poll of likely Michigan voters shows President Barack Obama leading both Mitt Romney and Newt Gingrich.
The poll for the Detroit Free Press and WXYZ-TV was released Thursday, a day ahead of Obama's planned speech at the University of Michigan about college affordability.
The poll of 600 likely voters found 48 percent said they would support the Democratic incumbent if he ran against Republican Romney. Forty percent said they'd back Romney, a Michigan native.
In an Obama-Gingrich race, 51 percent said they'd back the president and 38 percent said they'd back the Republican ex-U.S. House speaker.
The Lansing-based polling company EPIC-MRA conducted the poll Saturday through Wednesday. The results have a margin of sampling error of 4 percentage points up or down.
