About 500 nurses have held a held a march and rally at the state Capitol to support legislation to increase staffing levels and protect workers at Michigan hospitals.
Members of the Michigan Nurses Association marched down Michigan Avenue to the Capitol steps rally Wednesday.
The participants included Ashley Forsberg, a registered nurse at Sparrow Hospital.
She says heavy workloads now make it impossible for nurses to "pay attention to details" and says they only have time to react, not take initiative.
The nurses marched past about 70 picketing employees of the state Department of Corrections. They object to the planned elimination of round-the-clock armed motorized patrols on the perimeter of the state's prisons.
The change takes effect next month
