A trio of victories on Tuesday gave Rick Santorum a much needed boost and now Michigan's primary on February 28th is much more important.
"I think it's more meaningful now because of the upset wins by Santorum," Michigan State University political science professor, Paul Abramson, said.
One event is scheduled before Michigan's primary, a caucus in Maine where Ron Paul has been campaigning heavily.
"Michigan also holds a primary the same day as Arizona," Abramson added.
Michigan was a state once thought to be a lock for Mitt Romney, but his scheduled visit in late February shows he's not taking the state lightly, despite his strong ties to the state his father was Governor of.
"I don't think primaries hurt the party," State Sen. Rick Jones, (R-Grand Ledge), said. "I think parties get people excited."
That excitement will continue to grow as the month goes on and Michigan residents can expect to see more campaigning and political ads because the race is so close.
Despite a race that continues to tighten, many believe it is still Romney's to lose.
"Watch out for Mitt Romney I think he's going to take Michigan by storm," Sen. Jones said.
"I don't know if in primaries you've seen one that's likely to be as important as the one that's coming up in a few weeks," Abramson said.
With three weeks to go, Governor Rick Snyder has yet to endorse a candidate, but he is expected to make an announcement sometime before Michigan's primary.
