Meijer has plans to remodel four of its stores this year, including the one on Pennsylvania Avenue in Lansing.

It's part of a $160 million investment the company is making in new and remodeled stores in 2013.

The investment includes the construction of six new Meijer supercenters in Swartz Creek, Michigan; Portage, Indiana; Detroit, Michigan; Danville, Illinois; Evergreen Park, Illinois and Warsaw, Indiana. It also includes major remodel projects for another five stores in Lansing, Taylor, Flint, Grand Rapids (Knapp's Corner) and Springfield, Illinois.

“We are pleased to continue to invest in the Midwest communities that have supported us for so long,” Co-Chairman and Co-Chief Executive Officer Hank Meijer said. “By keeping prices low and maintaining our focus on customer service, we have been able to continue to grow during a tough economic cycle.”

The South Pennsylvania Avenue Meijer in Lansing will be totally rebuilt, within a 14-month timeframe that will transform the aging site into an all-new store. Grocery and pharmacy areas will remain intact at all times during the construction process.

Some of the project highlights at the Pennsylvania store include a new drive-up pharmacy, polished concrete floors in the food and home areas, relocation of the garden center for easier access for customers and an external bottle return. The CATA bus terminal will also be relocated to the west side of the store.

Thank God. This is the only Meijer in which I didn't feel safe to shop. Also, it is the only Meijer that I've been to that is more filthy than a Wal-mart.

Thank goodness, that store is very dirty and gross. I don't see carts though on their list, I stopped shopping there because they never had any carts on the weekends, seriously? no carts and you are a grocery store....Kroger is much better, love Kroger.

@Kelly: you make a valid point. The meijer by my house probably gets half of its business from the former customers of the West Lansing/Delta Meijer. That place is a toilet also. They come to GL because they can actually feel safe when they shop.

We call it scary Meijer. Won't go there after dark and won't let the kids go there at all.

Glad to see the Penn Meijer will get a make over now next can they make over the clientell? I was in line behind a male who bought a babies onesis he also bought a meijer gift card then swiped a VISA he told the clerk he didn't know the pin # and she over road it for credit, transaction done he then did the same thing a 2nd baby outfit and a 2nd gift card this time the card wouldn't go threw he ran out w/ the out fits we called the clerk over he had tried to put 500 on the gift card OBVIOUS stolen VISA and this clerk knew nothing aside from the fact he stole the outfits and ran out the door. So please Meijers clean up the scum that frequents your location before you do your improvements or its sad to say they will ultimatley be ruined by these types of so called customers.
