UPDATE: MSU spokesman Kent Cassella released the following statement to wilx.com:

"While sending out alert notifications concerning the severe weather on May 28, the emergency system MSU Police uses inadvertently sent an email message to some members of the MSU community about an active shooter on campus. There was not a shooting incident on campus.

MSU Police immediately sent a follow-up message to all members of the MSU community alerting them of the mistake and are working with the system's vendor to determine why the message was accidentally sent. We sincerely apologize for the mistake and any confusion or concern that it caused."
