"We felt that trying to play this game tonight would have been a horrible experience for the fans as well as pretty much just unsafe for Michigan State and the Lugnuts."
Nick Grueser, GM of the Lansing Lugnuts
It was supposed to be the site of a big game... But now it's just the site of a really big tarp,
Tonight's crosstown showdown between the Lansing Lugnuts and the Spartan baseball team has been postponed a few weeks thanks to this relentless rain.
The team is disappointed, but they are no stranger to strange weather.Jeremy Smoker, Director of Marketing for the Lugnuts says "April is always a tough month in Michigan, and unfortunately in the sport of baseball we have to deal with the weather outside."
But spring means baseball, and the league opener is scheduled for tomorrow. The team is optimistic that they'll be able to hit the field soon.
"The field, considering the amount of rain we've taken, is actually in pretty good shape.... Probably couldn't play tonight but hopefully it holds off a little bit and we can play tomorrow. Grounds crews have being doing a fabulous job."
Grounds crews plan to work throughout the night and into tomorrow. And the team says that there will be plenty of games played, rain or shine.
Tomorrow's game time is set for seven-oh-five... And it happens to be freebie friday--- where you get two-for-one deals on food. Games are also set for Saturday and Sunday afternoon--- which happens to be kids day.
