We have a couple of volunteer opportunities to tell you about:

Downtown Lansing is looking for about 40 people to help plant flowers along Washington Square next week.

Planting will take place Tuesday, May 21 from 8am until about 1pm. Volunteers may work any time frame that fits with their schedule.

The holes will already be dug. Volunteers will have to insert the flowers and cover them back up with dirt and mulch.

If you'd like to help out, contact Jenn Wood at jenn@downtownlansing.org or call 517-487-3322.

Volunteers are also needed to help make the 50th annual East Lansing Art Festival a success.

It's this weekend, May 18 and 19, in downtown East Lansing.

Organizers need people to join its Green Team to help with recycling efforts, help park and guard bikes, booth runners to help artists and people to run the information booth.

The shifts are two hours long, both Saturday and Sunday. Volunteers will get a free festival t-shirt.

If you'd like to volunteer with the East Lansing Art Fest, go to www.elartfest.org or click on the link below.

It annoys me when people complain about the Lansing area having nothing to do, but then they also don't help out at any events or try to do anything positive. People need to walk the walk if they're going to talk the talk. I'm going to sign up for the planting right now!
