LINCOLN PARK, Mich. (AP) -- A lawyer for a Detroit-area woman who continued to get food stamps despite winning a Michigan lottery jackpot says his client is eager to repay the government aid.
Amanda Clayton is charged with failing to inform the state that her income had changed as a result of the lottery prize and a job. The 25-year-old from Lincoln Park won a $1 million jackpot on the game show "Make Me Rich!" and chose a $735,000 pre-tax lump sum last September.
Clayton waived her Tuesday preliminary examination in Lincoln Park, sending the case to Wayne County Circuit Court for trial.
Her next appearance is for arraignment June 5.
Defense lawyer John Dakmak says Clayton "is looking forward to making restitution however the case comes out" and repayment never was a sticking point.
