A conflict of interest over Lansing's proposed casino has led to the resignation of the Lansing Economic Development Corporation director.

The LEDC voted to approve the casino development agreement today--- allowing the city to sell the land to the Sault Ste. Marie Tribe of Chippewa Indians.

LEDC director Kelly Rossman recused herself from the vote--- saying she had worked for casino interests in the past--- causing a conflict of interest.

Mayor Bernero immediately called for her resignation, saying waiting until now to disclose that information was "a flagrant abuse of her public position of trust as a member of the LEDC Board of Directors."

In a letter to Mayor Bernero, Rossman-McKinney submitted her resignation early Wednesday afternoon. In the letter, she explains why she recused herself from the vote--- citing her past relationship with the Chippewa Tribe & Greektown between 1992 - 2004, as well as a potential conflict of interest since members of her public relations firm, Truscott Rossman, have had conversations with
Lansing Futures, LLC and potential opponents of the proposal.

She also noted she's recused herself from other votes in the past based on her business relationships and it's not an unusual practice.

Rossman-McKinney ended the letter with, "I am submitting my letter of resignation simply because you asked for it, not because I
compromised my integrity today in any way, shape or form."
