Jackson Holding Forums On Human Trafficking

Human trafficking....not something most people think is happening here in Michigan. Unfortunately, it is a reality in our state. Now one community is trying to raise awareness about the issue. The City of Jackson is holding the first of a series of open community forums tonight. It will take a look at the definition of human trafficking and what is happening in Jackson County and across the state. As many as 150 girls under the age of 18 are sold to be sex slaves every month. That's worldwide. Now the issue of human trafficking in Michigan is starting to gain more attention. This past July the issue was put into the spotlight after the FBI conducted an investigation in southeast Michigan that resulted in the arrests of 59 people associated with human trafficking. State lawmakers say it's a growing problem in Michigan, and they're looking into ways to stop it. Tonight's community forum will allow people to ask questions and learn how they can help stop trafficking. The meeting is at 6:30 at the Jackson Library. The public is welcome and encouraged to attend.
