"The Ingham County Animal Control & Shelter put on a very nice and touching event. I couldn't be more proud to be included in such a warm and caring group of people. 11 other people were honored, including Lansing Police Chief Teresa Szymanski, Ingham County Prosecutor Stuart Dunnings and several volunteers."
The Ingham County Animal Control and Shelter honored twelve people with its Humanitarian Awards for 2012 with a banquet and awards ceremony Wednesday at the Kellogg Hotel and Conference Center in East Lansing.
One of the people honored was WILX's 6pm news producer, Kaci Babineau.
The ICACS described Kaci's work on their behalf:
"If the shelter was running out of doghouses or pet food for the ICAC Community Pet Food Bank--- Kaci wasted no time in sending a news crew to the shelter. If an animal needed surgery or help with extensive veterinary care--- Kaci sent a news crew. If the shelter was overcrowded or need volunteers to help renovate the Outreach Center, Kaci sent a reporter to cover the story. She is always there for the animals first and foremost and she stirs the public into donating their time and money to help the animals as well as educating the masses on the vital work being done every day in Ingham County on behalf of homeless and abused animals. Thank you Kaci for your humane commitment toward animals."
Kaci's award also included a quote from her, about her passion for helping animals. "Animals don't have a voice, yet all we have to do is look into their eyes to know what they're saying. When I look into the eyes of some of the abused, neglected and other perfectly healthy animals waiting for a home, I know I have to be that voice. Thanks to my power as a TV News Producer, I can speak for them-- using the internet, social media and television. Being nominated and selected for this Humanitarian Award tells me I'm helping make a real difference in their lives and for that, I couldn't be happier."
Some of the other honorees included Lansing Police Chief Teresa Szymanski and Ingham County Prosecutor Stuart Dunnings.
