The Capital Area Humane Society has gained ownership of the dog known as Tatiana. That means Tatiana can be placed in a special environment where she will continue her rehabilitation.
The Pit Bull was found beaten, bound with tape and left for dead in a Lansing ditch more than a year ago.
Ray Potter of Diamondale pleaded "No Contest" to abusing the dog. He served a 93 day jail sentence and was ordered to pay thousands of dollars in court costs and fines.
Tatiana belonged to Potter's girlfriend and could have been returned to her. But the Humane Society took steps to take legal ownership of the dog and block it's return.
