Shiana Smith was last seen at the Lansing Mall Cinema two weeks ago. She was watching a movie with her mom when she left to go to the restroom and never returned.
Two weeks later and there are still no solid leads on where she may be. Mom Laurie Smith is worried what may have started as a runaway could've turned to something worse.
"I have no idea what the scenario is, of course there are a lot of scenarios that go through my head. I try not to follow the real scary ones," Smith said.
According to Laurie Smith, Shiana is a straight "A" student but has shown signs that there were issues. In fact, Smith said her daughter ran away once in September, but didn't make it far before getting picked up by police.
"I adopted her at 3 [years old] from China. My guess is it may have more to do with not feeling real connected to her adopted family and as I read, it's pretty common," Smith said.
Investigators believe the 15 year old left on her own will, but they're not ruling out the possibility that she may be in danger.
"We don't think she was taken against her will but obviously she's been missing, she's on her own, she could've run into some trouble that she wasn't able to deal with and that's what we're worried about," said Lt. Jeff Campbell from the Eaton County Sheriff's Office.
Meanwhile, Laurie Smith is keeping the word out there about her missing daughter, determined to bring Shiana back.
