LANSING - Your boss cannot force you to give her access to your private email accounts and social network sites. On Friday Governor Snyder signed into law a bill that prohibits employers and educational institutions from asking its employees and job applicants for the means to check on your personal email accounts and social network sites, like Facebook and Twitter. The new law also penalizes educational institutions for dismissing or failing to admit a student who does not provide such details. "Cyber security is important to the reinvention of Michigan, and protecting the private internet accounts of residents is a part of that," Snyder said. "Potential employees and students should be judged on their skills and abilities, not private online activity."
