A local student received top honors at the National Guard Center in Lansing.

Junior Hunter Frederickson from Eaton Rapids was promoted to Chief Petty Officer in the Sea Cadets.

The U.S. Naval Sea Cadet teaches teenagers about the Navy, Marine Corps, Coast Guard and Merchant Marines.

Chief Petty Officer to the Sea Cadets is the equivalent of an Eagle Scout to the Boy Scouts.

An honor Frederickson is deserving due to his work ethic.

"This cadet has met all the goals to meet that to become a Chief, he has been through many trainings, bootcamp, he's done a lot of coursework through the program and he's held good grades in school," says David Hall of the USNSCC.

Federickson will now gain more responsibility with his new title as he goes into the military next year.
