"I wanted the community to have a different aspect and way to give back and this gives it to them," he said. "This lets them see their donation hit the street."

It's been two days since Mike Karl took to the streets and, not surprisingly, the cold has already taken its toll.

"My knuckles are red, I'm chapped, my face is cold," said Karl.

But the reason he's out there in the first place is more than enough to keep him going.

"I want to provide a meal, I want to provide warmth and I want provide a way for the public to see what the need is," he said.

Each of the last three years, Karl, a worker at the GM Delta Township plant, has spent one week in November back on the streets, after being homeless for six months, eight years ago. He meets Lansing's homeless and finding out what they need to get themselves back on their feet.

In the meantime, he updates his Facebook and keeps a Livestream of everyone he meets, allowing everyday people to get involved. The public has responded. Karl's truck was full of donations, Wednesday, collected by the Eaton Rapids Police Department.

"I think it's really cool he's doing it," said Raquel Gonzales, who donated three bags of clothes to Karl's cause. "What he's doing is really good."

With the public's help, Karl has already gotten eight people off of the Lansing streets, this week.

"I wanted the community to have a different aspect and way to give back and this gives it to them," he said. "This lets them see their donation hit the street."

And he's not stopping anytime soon. For more information on Karl's cause and on how to help, click the links below.
