Donald Suttle faces up to life in prison after being found guilty of second degree murder late Tuesday afternoon. Sentencing has been set for December 19.

Suttle was one of four men, all employees of Brannigan Brothers bar in downtown Lansing, who chased down a bar patron and beat him in the early hours of New Years day.

The victim, 30-year-old Travis Peterson of Lansing, suffered severe skull and brain injuries. He died two days later.

Eyewitnesses say Suttle, who was working security at the Brannigan Brothers bar, used a police-style baton to beat Peterson.

The head of the security team, 31-year-old Austin Smith of Grand Ledge, has also been charged with murder and is expected to face trial in December.

The remaining two members of the bar's security team have not been charged.

No these black men can't catch a break for committing murder! Why would you make this a racial issue? These same men would still be guilty if they were white, because they committed murder! I don't know if you followed the case, but I know these individuals and/or their families personally, and they killed these men. Rick Strong killed Notch and Don Suttle played his part in killing Travis Peterson with the baton he always carried with him. I can say in these cases race was not why they were found guilty!

Dang can a black man catch a break in Ingham county? Was there a single black person on the jury for Richard Strong or Donald Suttle? SMDH :(

It is my understanding that Suttle was no longer employed by Brannigans. And the deceased had broken the nose of a fellow employee at that bar just minutes before leaving. The security crew was chasing him down to detain him so the police to could arrest him for assault. Additionally, the deceased attacked the security team when they approached. I am not sure how Austin is being charged, it was Suttle that struck him. How is Austin responsible for that? Talk about wrongfully accused.
